Olhão, Portugal
Cubist fishing quarter and the Ria Formosa islands
Olhão is the Algarve’s great fishing port, its old quarter built in white cube houses with flat rooftop terraces — a style sailors brought back from North Africa. Two market halls face the waterfront, and ferries leave daily for the lagoon islands of Armona and Culatra, where cars don’t exist.

Living in Olhão
Prices remain below the resort belt despite the port city services, and the rental market mixes fishermen, internationals and remote workers — a rare still-authentic corner of the central Algarve.
